A mother-to-be needs to be emotionally nurtured by not
only her partner but also as many people as possible. A nurturing
and soothing touch by a therapist can release your emotional tensions
and relax you.
Studies show that your baby can sense and respond
to your stress levels. So, prenatal massage is good for you as well
as your baby. Massage also helps to prepare the body for delivery.
Pre-mommies
need lot's of support
Aloha! My name is Shiho and I am a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii.
I provide out-call pre-natal (pregnancy) massage service on the island
of Oahu.
The pregnancy massage was the first massage I had ever received in the
United States. I was about to pop my first baby. I had gained about 45
pounds and my tummy was huge. Whenever I went for a walk, I had contractions.
So, I couldn't do too much exercise.
My friend sent a massage therapist to my house as a baby shower gift.
I am from Japan, so I knew about Shiatsu and Annma massage techniques.
But I didn't know how nice the lotion massage would feel on my achy body.
The therapist's hands felt so nice especially around my spine. I didn't
know how tired my body and my mind were until I received this healing
massage. I felt an instant relaxation when she put her hands on my back.
I couldn't tell how long the massage was - I was in a very happy place.
The pregnancy massage was the reason why I decided to become a massage
therapist. It is my hope to help all the mothers-to-be feel better and
enjoy their special time.

Postpartum
Massage
I noticed that the positions of internal organs and body structure changed
through the pregnancy and and never returned to the pre-pregnancy position
in my body. I didn't know about postpartum massage and exercises at that
time.
The postpartum period is usually the first six weeks after the delivery.
Your body, especially your uterus goes back to its pre-pregnant size and
position during postpartum time. The postpartum massage will help you
realign your body after giving birth. It helps your body to restore muscle
tones, body alignment, skin conditions, blood circulation, and reduce
swelling.
Also, breastfeeding mommy develops a neck problem by looking down at
a feeding baby, and the massage will help you ease the pain. Hormone changes
and postpartum blues (feeling sad and depressed) can be reduced through
the massage as well.
